SMAC SUPPLIES TECHNOLOGY TO SAVOIA ITALIA

29.03.2022

Savoia Italia (Moma Group) has installed Smac’s D-Glaze, K-Flow and Klima technologies as part of a glazing department ugprade at its Fiorano and Sassuolo facilities.
Savoia Italia, a historic company belonging to the Moma Group and based in the Sassuolo ceramic district, has recently upgraded the glazing departments of its factories. For this purpose, it commissioned Officine Smac (Fiorano Modenese) to supply new automation devices to achieve greater production flexibility, rapid colour changes and a high standard of quality control over finished products.
Specifically, Smac supplied seven D-Glaze stations complete with accessories for the automatic preparation of controlled-density glazes and two K-Flow devices for the automatic control of airless spray nozzles for the Savoia facility in Fiorano Modenese.
Smac also supplied four D-Glaze stations, four K-Flow devices and two Klima coolers as part of the modernisation work at the Sassuolo production facility acquired by the Moma Group in 2021.
The adoption of D-Glaze and K-Flow has made it possible to fully automate the processes of glaze preparation and feeding to the glazing stations, further aided by an automatic system for glaze recirculation and transport from the milling department to the production lines. The operator can choose the desired glaze or engobe recipe using a simple graphical interface, after which the system automatically prepares, supplements and feeds the glaze or engobe while keeping the density and quantity parameters controlled and constant.
The two Klima coolers serving the digital printers will ensure defect-free decoration and a longer printhead lifetime.
The Moma group consists of the three companies Ceramiche Moma, Herberia and Savoia Italia and posted consolidated revenues of approximately €120 million in 2021.

DSR - Machine for dry application of granules, frits, powders and sintered glazes

07.04.2021

Machine for dry application of granules, frits, powders and sintered glazes, DSR is characterized by simplicity of use, innovative feeding system and reduced overall dimensions. Thanks to just 650 mm width, DSR can be installed easily and without any mechanical modification on any existing glazing line.
It allows a full-field application with a few grams of material up to covers with high quantities suitable for subsequent lapping, maintaining a constant and uniform coverage on tiles and slabs up to 2200 mm wide.
The machine is composed of a self-supporting structure completely closed to avoid dispersion in the environment and to maintain a constant application over time. The system uses a motorized rubber coated roller controlled by an inverter to manage the extraction and the dosage of the material to be applied, a stainless steel collection tank with an anti-intrusion system, a feed and recycle feeding unit and a dosing hopper with a self-leveling system distribution.
The management is completely automatic, through an electrical control panel with PLC and programming keyboard.
The DSR machine can be equipped with a separated feeding container (model CF) to increase the production autonomy. In case of production with glue printings, before the powder application, the system can be completed with the suction device model CGA, composed by cyclone with anti-waste internal covering, discharge automatic valve and balanced suction pipes. This system can also be equipped with a screening and pneumatic automatic recycle device that brings back the material recovered inside of the DSR machine.

REVERSO

03.03.2021

Reverso is a roller decorating machine for printing and applying engobe to the reverse side of tiles as they proceed along the glazing line. This application prevents contamination due to direct contact between the tile and the ceramic rollers in the kiln during firing.

Incorrect or nonuniform application of these products may result in serious damage, including rapid deterioration of the ceramic rollers, deformation of tile flatness and undesirable accumulation of tiles inside the kiln.

These issues are often timeconsuming and costly to resolve, resulting in severe delays and production losses.

Thanks to the laserengraved silicone roller application system, Reverso ensures perfect and uniform engobe application to the rear face of the tiles with the possibility of controlled application weights. It avoids all product wastage, does not contaminate the tile edges and is able to print logos and other designs.

Available for sizes up to 1800 mm wide, it uses silicone cylinders with lengths from 1020 mm to 2200 mm.

Machine characteristics:

  • independent supporting frame with adjustable feet;
  • device for rapid assembly/disassembly of the engraved silicone roller;
  • independent blade groups with adjustable height, inclination and angle of incidence;
  • registers to adjust contact between the silicone roller and the tiles;
  • invertercontrolled gear motor for regulating the speed of rotation of the roller as the tile advances;
  • automatic management of the rotational speed;
  • automatic printhead ascent/descent device controlled by a photocell for flow control;
  • lower stainless steel tank for excess glaze recovery;
  • feeding group complete with pneumatic pump with pausework management;
  • double blade group feeding device;
  • silicone roller with various mask type special engravings;
  • electrical panel complete with inverter, general controls, encoder, flow control photocell, pump management and onboard plant.
